Aid for the purchase of an electric bike : individuals, professionals and companies

Aid for the purchase of an electric bike : individuals, professionals and companies
Why are subsidies so important for our electric bikes ?
The average price of an electric bike (EAB) is around €2,000, which is more than a net minimum wage. Suffice to say that it is not within everyone's reach. Some high-end models such as cargo bikes can even exceed €10,000. So inevitably, when we hear about financial aid, we think it's an opportunity to seize. And you're right !
We live in a period where we are looking to be more eco-responsible, to reduce our impact on the planet, to find alternatives to the car. This is where aid plays a key role. They allow everyone to have access to an electric bike, whether they are an individual, a professional or a company.
But since February 15, 2025, things have changed. The famous bicycle bonus and the conversion bonus have ended following Decree No. 2024-1084. But does this mean that there is no longer any help to buy an electric bike ? The answer is no. Some aid is disappearing, but others remain, particularly at the local level or via employers.
The objective of this page is to make a clear and complete point to help you understand what is still available in 2025, whoever you are or whatever your current situation is .
The end of national aid in 2025: the bicycle bonus and the conversion bonus
If you are already familiar with this subject, don't hesitate to go directly to the next section (local aids), it will probably be more useful to you !
Until February 14, 2025, it was still possible to benefit from two very interesting aids :
- A bike bonus
For whom ? All those who bought a new electric bike, a folding bike, a cargo bike or even a bike adapted for people with disabilities.
How much ? Up to €400 for classic electrically assisted bicycles (EABs) and up to €2,000 for a cargo bike.
- The conversion bonus
For whom ? Low-income households who scrapped an old petrol vehicle and then switched to electric bikes.
How much ? Up to €3,000.
But from 15 February 2025, these two national aids have unfortunately been abolished... What for? There is no official statement on this yet, but there are reports that the government felt that e-bikes already had strong local support and that the market no longer needed to rely on national subsidies because it was already well established in the territory. Others indicate that the State was seeking to reduce their public spending and aid for soft mobility was one of the measures reassessed and "cut" in this context. The logic would now be to let the local authorities decide because they know the needs of their inhabitants better. Maybe that would give them more leeway.
In short, what should be remembered ? If you bought a bike before 14 February 2025, you could still apply for the aid (within 6 months). On the other hand, for any acquisition of an electric bike after this date, the bike bonus and the conversion bonus no longer exist.
So, there's no need to waste time searching on different sites: there is no longer a bike bonus, nor a conversion bonus in 2025 ! But this doesn't mean that all aid has disappeared and fortunately !
Local aid still available (and sometimes more generous)
As mentioned earlier, the abolition of the national bonus does not mean that there is nothing left. On the contrary, some regions, departments, metropolises and cities offer aid that is sometimes even more interesting and flexible than the old State system. Even if by combining it could become particularly interesting for everyone, some local authorities allow you to combine local aid and business subsidies.
Rather than just giving you a list, here's what you need to know:
- Depending on your income, age, situation, place of residence, the type of bike chosen (cargo, folding,...), its price and its condition (new or used), some cities or regions offer subsidies of up to €1500.
But as you may have guessed, the most important factor common to all cities or regions of France will obviously be the reference tax income.
However, each local authority sets its own rules:
- Revenue cap for certain grants
- Mandatory domiciliation (home or business in the area)
- Type of bike (electric, cargo, foldable, adult, child, etc...)
Amounts and criteria according to the municipality : check your eligibility !
To make it easier for you and discover all the local aids available for the purchase of your bike, you can consult according to your preferences :
- Mes aides France Travail : an official government platform that centralizes the aid available according to your situation.
- Mesaidesvelos.fr : a website dedicated to aid for the purchase of bicycles, offering practical information and a simulator to estimate your rights.
A word of advice : always check the deadline and the necessary documents for each aid. Some are only available until the end of the year, and forgetting them could mean missing out on significant savings. So don't neglect this information and keep it in the back of your mind !
Aid for professionals and companies
Professionals (craftsmen, self-employed, delivery people) and companies can also benefit from very generous aid to reduce their costs or improve the company's carbon footprint.
Aid for companies : sustainable mobility plan
The sustainable mobility plan, in itself, does not finance the bicycle, but it is an internal strategy of the company that can integrate measures (such as the sustainable mobility package), which will greatly reduce the cost of buying or using an electrically assisted bicycle.
Sustainable mobility package
If your company wants to encourage its own employees to opt for ecological means of transport (classic bike, electrically assisted bike, shared mobility, etc.), the sustainable mobility package (FMD) can be an excellent solution of up to €900 in aid, when combined with the coverage of transport subscriptions or up to €600, if used alone.
In concrete terms, this can cover maintenance, charging and part of the purchase of your bike. It is therefore a simple, modular and particularly appreciated incentive.
If you want to know all the conditions in detail, consult the official FAQ of the Sustainable Mobility Package.
Tax aid for companies
If you are a company, you should know that making fleets of electric bikes available to your employees can be much cheaper than expected, thanks to two things :
- The corporate tax reduction: up to 25% of the purchase or rental price.
- Tax depreciation: the cost can therefore be spread over several years.
For example: if a company buys a fleet of 10 electric bikes at €4,000 each, for a total of €40,000 including tax).
- With the tax reduction (25%) : €40,000 x 25% = €10,000
- Net cost to the company : €40,000 - €10,000 = €30,000
In this way, the company could acquire 10 electric bikes for a net cost of €30,000 instead of €40,000, for a saving of €10,000 thanks to the tax reduction.
For more details on the tax reduction for companies that make bicycles available to their employees, go to the official page of the public service.
Aid for individuals
Aid for individuals is primarily intended to democratize the use of electric bicycles by taking into account the varied profiles and specific needs of each individual.
Families, students, people with disabilities
Typically, a mother of 2 children will not have the same needs as a student.
- For families
Some local authorities are more supportive of the purchase of cargo bikes, in other words the most suitable bikes for carrying groceries or children and getting around with ease. The cost of buying this type of bike will be higher than for a conventional electric bike.
- For students
Many university cities offer specific aid to students or people under 25 years old to encourage soft mobility on a daily basis, but this concerns more the rental of self-service electrically assisted bicycles and its subscriptions.
- For people with reduced mobility (PRM)
Aid can be strengthened because, on average, PRM bikes cost more than conventional electric bikes.
If you don't belong to these categories, you only benefit from the local aid mentioned above, but these can be combined. For example, some employees can benefit from the sustainable mobility package if they use their bicycle to go to work, even if this scheme remains primarily at the initiative of the employer.
How to accumulate aid effectively ?
Getting help is already very good. But being able to accumulate them is even better: it's worth looking into it even if you don't necessarily want to bother with the administrative procedures (mainly via an online application).
To give you a concrete idea, here are some examples of profiles and bikes with details of the aid they can accumulate depending on their situation :
A small clarification : the examples given mainly concern modest profiles because they are the ones who benefit from the highest aid. If you have a higher income, the amounts will often be reduced, which is normal.
Can all your aid be combined ? Check it !
Keep in mind that not all aid can always be combined with each other. To find out, check :
- The conditions set by each local authority
- Possible ceilings (often 50% of the price or a maximum amount)
- The nature of the aid
Based on the table, in Paris, in 2025, an employee with a disability can combine the aid of the city, that of the Île-de-France region (within the limit of 50% of the price of the bicycle) and the FMD of his employer, but never beyond the actual price paid.
And if you ever have any doubts, contact your region or your town hall directly. They are in the best position to confirm whether or not your accumulation is possible.
Alternatives to direct aid
Despite these subsidies, an electrically assisted bike may seem too expensive or the subsidies may seem insufficient depending on your situation. This is why we offer you some interesting alternatives to these direct aids to try to reduce the cost of buying a bike in a different way.
Long-term rental (or bicycle leasing)
Rather than buying an e-bike right away, you can try renting one over several months or years (often 6, 12, 24 or 36 months). It's a practical solution that can save you several hundred or even thousands of euros. Maintenance is usually included in the contract, which limits unexpected costs. It also allows you to test your bike before a possible purchase or to be able to change it whenever you want (within the limit of the contract) without having to invest a large amount of money at once.
Promotions, trade-in and destocking
Some manufacturers and stores also offer advantageous packages. For example, the trade-in of your old bike : it is estimated, then its value is deducted from the price of the new one. Simple and effective to reduce the bill immediately.
In addition, seasonal promotions (back-to-school, holidays, etc.) or clearance campaigns when new models are released, and you can easily save a few hundred euros, without compromising on quality.
For example, let's imagine that you want to buy a high-end electric bike for €5,000 :
- Thanks to a destocking campaign, the price can immediately drop by 20% (sometimes more) or €1,000 in savings
- You add to this the trade-in of your old bike (if you have one) estimated at 250€
As a result, your bike will only cost you €3,750 instead of €5,000, which is €1,250 less than the initial price.
So there is no need to rush. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right moment.
